The FRSE publication Mentoring and Tutoring 2.0: Relationships, Development and Technology in Vocational Education is a guide aimed at teachers and educators. It explores the potential for combining developmental support with digital tools. It provides an introduction to relationship-based approaches (mentoring, tutoring, coaching) in education. It discusses, amongst other things:

• tutoring and mentoring in educational practice,
• stimulating learner development – mentoring, tutoring and coaching in practice,
• technologies used in tutoring and mentoring.

The case studies and examples of good practice described relate to mentoring and tutoring programmes implemented by secondary and higher education institutions, which have adapted them to their own needs and operational contexts. The recommendations included cover integrating mentoring and tutoring into the culture of the institution; building the competencies of adults through support, training and supervision; combining technology with personal relationships; ensuring mental wellbeing; and treating social and emotional competencies on a par with subject knowledge.
